Why You Will Love These Almond Meal Buns

Honestly, if you can stir with a spoon, you can make these – they are that easy. They take about 5 minutes to prep and 15 minutes in the oven. That is faster than running to the store for burger buns, right? They taste amazing.

These almond meal buns are soft on the inside, slightly crisp on the outside, and delicious with that load of cheesy flavour. I make them for my husband (who follows a keto lifestyle), but I always end up eating half myself because they are so tempting.

You can literally have them any way. Breakfast, snacks, burger buns… you name it! These work for all of it. Make them smaller for biscuits, bigger for burgers, or enjoy them plain with butter or cream cheese. I won’t hesitate to double the recipe and serve them on a party tray for my guests.

What You Will Need

Here is the beauty of this recipe – it uses basic, real ingredients, but each one plays an important role:

Almond Meal –  This is the base and flour substitute. Almond meal is simply ground almonds, which makes it naturally gluten-free, low carb, and full of healthy fats that keep you feeling satisfied.

Yogurt – Adds moisture, fluffiness, and a little tanginess to balance out the almonds. You can use plain Greek yogurt for extra protein.

Egg – Acts like glue, holding everything together while also giving that lovely golden colour as the buns bake.

Shredded Cheese – Choose mozzarella for a mild taste or cheddar for more bite. The cheese melts inside, adding structure and burst of flavours.

Baking Powder – The secret to keeping these keto buns light and fluffy instead of dense.

Pinch of Salt and Everything Bagel Mix – The finishing touch for the buns. That crunchy, savory topping with sesame seeds, garlic, and onion makes them look and taste chef-y.

How to Serve These Almond Meal Buns

This is how I usually serve these low keto buns:

Breakfast – Slice in half and spread with cream cheese, avocado, or butter. Add a tomato slice and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

Snack – Make them smaller and enjoy them like biscuits. Perfect with coffee or tea.

Burgers – Make the buns a bit larger, bake for 5–7 minutes longer, then cool completely before slicing. They hold up beautifully to juicy burger patties or chicken sandwiches.

How to Store

These buns are best fresh, but you can absolutely make a batch ahead. You can keep them at room temperature in a paper bag for up to a day.

For longer, store them in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to a month. To use, let them unfreeze naturally for about an hour.
