The Story Behind…

I still remember the first time I tried energy bites – it was a tiny sample at a health food store, many years ago. I had no clue what they were, but they were good. Tasty, filling and memorable.

That little bite stuck with me, so I decided that the time had come for my very own version of power balls with dates, hemp seeds, oats, and all the good stuff.

Why Are They Amazing?

I love these healthy energy bites because they are super easy to make, and even easier to adjust.

No stress if you’re out of ingredient, because you can just peek into your pantry and swap in what you have. They are that flexible and easy.

And did I mention that they are totally no-bake. That means they can be ready in minutes.

So if you want them for breakfast, snack or late night treat – you can have them ready in no time. I think this wil become your new favourite healthy snack recipe.

The Hemp Seeds…

These protein power balls are built around hemp seeds and oats, which are the two mighty little ingredients that bring the protein and the fiber here. I grabbed a big bag of hemp seeds recently to challenge myself to create more recipes with them. And honestly, they’re amazing and exceeded all the expectations I had. These bites are just the beginning of what’s coming.

What You’ll Need

Rolled oats – I use rolled oats each day – I toss them in everything, from pancakes, muffins, banana bread, and smoothies. They are healthy, protein-rich, and full of fiber.

Hemp seeds – A great source of protein and fiber, with a little crunch that I love. I’ve been sprinkling them over yogurt, salads, muffins, and now, rolling them into tiny power balls.

Honey – I use honey for sweetness and stickiness, but maple syrup or agave works too. Just use what you have on hand to sweeten them up.

Almond butter – Or any nut or seed butter. It adds flavour and helps everything stick together.

Pitted dates – Soak them in warm water or milk for 5-10 minutes. They make everything naturally sweet and help bind the bites. If you are out of dates, you can try dried apricots or prunes.

Chopped nuts – I used walnuts, but any kind will do. Peanuts, almonds, cashews… even a mix. I love the crunch they give.

SpicesCinnamon and vanilla add a nice warm and cozy flavour. Just add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness. A little nutmeg works too if that’s your thing.

Equipment You’ll Need

You can chop and mix everything by hand, but a food processor or blender makes things way easier and quicker. I have both the NutriBullet and food processor, and my life is so much easier since those additions.

So go ahead, make a batch, and treat yourself (and others) to a little but powerful bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 6-8 pitted dates (soaked in warm water or milk)

  • ½ cup hemp seeds

  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (or any nuts you like)

  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Optional toppings
  • Shredded coconut, chopped nuts, cocoa powder, melted chocolate (or anything else you like)

Directions

  • Soak the dates in warm water or milk for 5-10 minutes, then drain (save the soaking liquid, because you might need it later to adjust the texture.soak the dates
  • Add the hemp seeds, rolled oats and nuts as well. add oats
  • To add some extra flavour, add the nut butter, pour the vanilla, sprinkle cinnamon and pinch of salt. add vanilla and spicesadd nut butter
  • Now start blending, ideally on a pulse so everything gets nicely incorporated. The texture should be even and sticky so you can roll the bites. If it gets too dry, just add some honey or just a bit of the sweet liquid from the drained dates. If it is too watery add some more dry ingredients such as hemp seeds or oats. It is easy to adjust. good texture
  • I like the power balls to be not as sweet, but if you crave something sweeter, just add more honey.
  • Use a small scoop or spoon to portion. Then roll into balls between your hands.scoop the power bitesshape into balls
  • To decorate, simply roll them in shredded coconut, chopped nuts, cocoa powder, or keep it plain and simple. They’ll be equally delicious.roll and decorateHealthy No-Bake Energy Bites

Notes

  • Make sure you don’t over-blend (not going for a super smooth texture here). The goal is to keep the nutty, crunchy bits so every bite has a little texture and character. That’s what makes these power balls so satisfying and delicious.

How to Store the Power Balls

I keep them in the fridge for up to a week. For longer storage, you can absolutely freeze them and pop them out when ready to use. Let them defrost for about 30 minutes and they’ll be ready to enjoy.
