Hands down for the most festive pomegranate gin and tonic cocktail recipe! When it comes to cocktails, gin is my thing. And not just pure gin (although it is the right way to be appreciated), but famous gin and tonic.
Recently, I discovered a festive variation that has quickly become a hit with my guests: the Pomegranate Gin and Tonic. It is an easy upgrade to the classic drink, with just one simple twist – a bit of pomegranate juice. For a beautiful touch of elegance and some vitamin C boost, few frozen cranberries will do the trick.

Gin – I love the botanic flavours of this spirit drink. It has a wonderful touch of juniper, citrus and herbs. The younger self leaned more towards Votka until I started to truly appreciate more bitterish flavours. And what else, but the gin is that master in that area. Nothing better compliments bitterness and herby touch of the gin, but the tonic.
Tonic – The fizzy, refreshing flavour of the tonic turns any drink into a party in a glass, especially where gin masters.
Pomegranate juice – Well here is the master of the show!
This is what gives that slightly sweet touch and incredibly festive red colour.
When you shop, aim for a good quality brand and unsweetened juice for the best results.
Fancy ice cubes – You need fruity, pomegranate based ice cubes. Simply fill your ice cube trays with unsweetened pomegranate juice and add few cranberries before freezing them overnight. It is incredible how beautiful they are once popped in your drink.
Silicone Ice Cube Trays – While any ice cube tray will do, I STRONGLY recommend silicone ones. The reason why I strongly encourage using the silicone ice cube trays, is that they are incredibly easy to pop the ice cubes out of, and the larger cubes look fantastic. There are so many variations, shapes, and sizes available on the market. Here are a few of my top 3 choices:
Large Silicone Ice Cube Trays, 3 pack, with lid
Large Silicone Ice Cube Trays, 2 pack
Large Silicone Ice Cube Tray, 2 pack, with lid
Lemon – With its zesty base, the lemon balances the bitterness and sweetness here.
Plus, it helps rim the edge of the glass with a bit of sugar giving a nice and elegant presentation.
Shaker (optional) – It is great to have a shaker to mix and chill the drinks perfectly. But if you don’t have fun – do not sweat you can absolutely do it without it.
Martini glasses – The way I imagined this drink is served in these perfect wide and shallow glasses. They will keep your drink cool longer and so sophisticated. Not that you can’t use any other glass you want to, it is just something I prefer and recommend doing it so you get the greatest results (I personally like the vintage glasses). Plus everyone needs at least 2 martini glasses at home. I may share espresso martini recipes soon (so you’ll need them again).

Ingredients
1 shot Gin (40 ml) - I usually use Gordon's or Beefeater, but feel free to use any other brand you prefer
1 tablespoon lemon juice
80 ml (or ⅓ cup) tonic
1-2 pomegranate ice cubes
Optional - fresh rosemary for garnish
Directions
- Fill an ice cube tray with unsweetened pomegranate juice and add few cranberries (and lemon slices optional) to each compartment. Freeze overnight.
- Take the martini glass, and rim the edge with lime before you coat it with some brown sugar. Freeze for at least a few hours.
- In a shaker, combine gin, lime juice, and a few small ice cubes. Shake well until chilled. (if you don’t have a shaker, simply combine all the ingredients and pour over the pomegranate ice cubes).
- In a chilled martini glass, add 1-2 pomegranate based ice cubes. Now strain and pour the gin mix.
Gently pour the tonic, stir and serve. If you have fresh rosemary, add to garnish. Now sit down, sip and relax! What a joy!
Notes
- You can make equally delicious non-alcoholic drink. Simply skip the gin and you’ll get a delicious fresh pomegranate-based lemonade.
- You can replace the lemon for lime. I personally like the more intense tanginess of the lemon, but lime is equally great ingredient to use.
