Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing

Here is something I never thought I’d say, but I actually make my own homemade Caesar salad dressing now. And it’s ridiculously easy.

For years, I skipped the Caesar salad because, honestly, I didn’t trust those store-bought bottles. You know the ones loaded with preservatives, unknown ingredients, and way too many empty calories.

I always thought, that there’s no way I can make that flavourful, creamy, sauce at home.

Spoiler alert: I was totally wrong.

One day, I decided to give it a try – just me, a blender, and a little kitchen inspiration. And to my surprise (and slight embarrassment), it took me all of five minutes to whip up the best Caesar dressing recipe ever

Creamy, full of flavour and 100% homemade.

Why This Is the Best Caesar Salad Dressing

This easy Caesar salad dressing is everything you want – quick, fresh, and completely customizable. And here is why it stands out:

It’s quick to make – You can have this dressing ready in about five minutes from start to finish. There is no long list of complicated steps or fancy cooking techniques. Just blend, season to taste and enjoy. Perfect for busy days when you still want something delicious and homemade.

It uses simple ingredients –  Every ingredient in this recipe is something you probably already have at home. No need for any specialty items or hard-to-find ingredients. It’s all basic pantry staples that come together to make something special.

You control the flavour and texture – When you make Caesar dressing at home, you get to decide how creamy, or salty it should be. You can adjust everything to your liking, something that just isn’t possible with bottled dressing.

It’s healthier and more fresh – No preservatives, not loaded with additives, and definitely no mystery ingredients. Just real food made fresh in your own kitchen. You’ll actually know what’s in your dressing, which makes everything feel better.

It’s affordable – Making your own Caesar dressing costs a fraction of what you’d pay for the premium store-bought versions. Plus, you can make as much or as little as you need, whenever you want it.

What You’ll Need

Here is what goes into this quick Caesar dressing, along with why each ingredient matters:

Egg yolks – These form the creamy base of the dressing, similar to how you’d make mayonnaise. They help blend everything together into the smooth texture Caesar dressing is known for.

egg yolks

Dijon mustard Adds the needed tanginess and also gives a nice golden colour and deep flavour.

Oyster sauce – This is my secret twist. Instead of anchovies, I use oyster sauce for that great savory, salty flavour. It’s subtle but makes a big difference. If anchovies aren’t your thing, this is the perfect swap.

Lemon juice – Traditional recipes often use vinegar, but lemon juice adds a bright, fresh taste that balances all so well. It makes everything taste lighter and cleaner.

Garlic – A single clove is enough to give that signature kick without overpowering the other flavours. You can add more if you love garlic, but one clove is the sweet spot.

Salt and black pepper – Essential for any seasoning. Always taste and adjust at the end, because every batch of lemon juice or mustard can vary slightly in intensity.

Light olive oil – This is what gives the dressing its silky consistency. I use light olive oil because it’s milder, but if you prefer a stronger, richer flavor, extra virgin olive oil works too.

Grated Parmesan cheese The final touch that brings everything together. It gives the dressing that unmistakable Caesar flavour and a slightly salty bite.

How to Make Caesar Dressing at Home

  • Add the egg yolks, Dijon mustard, oyster sauce, minced garlic, and lemon juice into your blender or food processor.ingredients
  • Blend on medium speed for about 30 seconds. This helps the ingredients start to come together.blend
  • While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil through the top opening. Adding the oil gradually is key, because it helps the dressing thicken and turn creamy instead of separating.add olive oil
  • Sprinkle in a bit of salt and pepper to season the base.blend
  • Once you have a smooth texture, stop the blender and add the grated Parmesan cheese. Pulse for about 10 seconds just to combine.add parmesan cheese
  • Taste the dressing and adjust if needed. If it’s too tangy, add a drizzle of honey. If you want more salt or pepper, now it’s the time to tweak it.
  • Use what you need, and collect the remaining in a jar for later.caesar salad dressing

Notes

  • For a bit of heat, add a few drops of sriracha sauce.
  • If you don’t have oyster sauce, substitute with Worcestershire sauce. It gives a similar depth of flavour.

How to Use the Caesar Dressing

Of course, this homemade Caesar dressing is perfect for a classic Caesar salad – crisp romaine lettuce, crunchy croutons, and shaved Parmesan cheese. But it’s also great in other ways.

Try spreading it on a BLT or cutlet sandwich for a flavourful creamy twist, use it as a dip for fresh vegetables or fries, or drizzle it over grilled chicken or wraps. It adds instant flavour to anything you pair it with (without the guilt).

How to Store Leftovers

I like to store mine in small glass jars that I’ve saved from desserts or jams. They are the perfect size and a great way to reuse containers. Keep your dressing in the refrigerator for up to five days.

Before using it again, give the jar a quick shake or stir to bring it back to its creamy consistency. It tastes just as good on day five as it did when you made it.

So next time you are craving a classic Caesar flavour, skip the store-bought bottle and make this easy Caesar salad dressing instead. It’s fresh, simple, and so flavourful.

Enjoy!
