Easy overnight oats with greek yogurt, topped up with your favourite fruit are always a great choice for a healthy, healthy breakfast.
I love this recipe because it’s fresh, simple, and light, just what you need to start your day without feeling too heavy. I am one of those people that needs some time in the morning to wake up the stomach, so the overnight oats are one of my favourite go-to breakfast.
Also, if you are a newbie in the world of overnight oats, this is a great place to start. This is the basic and easy-to-make recipe, and once you get the hang of it, you can try different flavours and toppings to mix things up. The options for making overnight oats that taste delicious and are incredibly nutritious are endless!
While you can make this an hour before eating, it is best to prepare your oats the night before (hence the name “overnight oats”). Letting them soak overnight gives the oats a creamy, smooth texture. If you eat them too early, they might taste a little raw and trust me, that’s not what you want.
For sweetness, just add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. Honey gives it a natural sweetness, while maple syrup adds a bit of extra delicious smokiness. Pick what you prefer.
Why you should incorporate oats in your cuisine
Oats are rich with fiber and a perfect breakfast energizer. They are very healthy, gentle on your stomach and help with digestion. It is great that they will keep you feeling full longer and therefore are perfect for starting your day right.

Steel-cut or rolled oats
Both types of oats are healthy, but rolled oats are easier to digest and work better for overnight oats. When soaked, rolled oats become creamy and soft, making them perfect for this type of meal.
Any substitutions
Greek Yogurt – You can substitute with regular yogurt, vanilla or fruit yogurt But I prefer unsweetened variations as you can control ingredients and sweetness better and to your preference. For a vegan option you can soak the oats in plant-based milk (oat, almond, coconut milk), coconut water or simply with warm water.
Honey – You can substitute the honey with maple syrup for a nice smokey flavour, agave syrup or fruit puree of sweeter fruit, such as mango, banana or pear.
Chia seeds – Chia seeds are great for intestinal health. You can easily substitute with hemp seeds instead, but feel free to skip them if you don’t have any this time.
Blueberries – Feel free to get creative and use any fruit you like. I personally love blueberries because they are not too sweet and make a great light topping for this hearty breakfast.
Optional toppings and add-ins – You can dust some ground cinnamon or even some nuts. As I mentioned earlier, no specific rules here, just choose what you like.

minutesLearn how to make easy overnight oats with rolled oats and Greek yogurt for a healthy, delicious breakfast!
Ingredients
½ cup greek yogurt
¼ cup rolled oats
2-3 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon chia seeds
¼ cup blueberries
lemon zest
Directions
- In a small cereal bowl or a mason jar, mix the greek yogurt, honey and rolled oats.
- Let them soak overnight (or at least for 1 hour).
- When ready to serve, add the blueberries, sprinkle with chia seeds and add just a drizzle of honey to top up.
- Finish the oats with a sprinkle of fresh lemon zest for a extra fresh touch. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can mix the chia seeds into the yogurt to soak. I prefer the crunchy texture, so I use them as a topping instead.
How to store the overnight oats
Store your oats in an airtight container, mason jar, or even a bowl with a lid. A lid helps keep the oats fresh and prevents them from absorbing other smells in the fridge. Do not freeze, but keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
