What Are Pork Skewers

Pork skewers are simply meat sliced in small cubes, threaded onto a stick, marinated, and grilled. Pork tenderloin is one of the best cuts for this because it is lean, tender, and takes on whatever flavour you put it in. The honey garlic marinade here gives the meat a sticky, savoury coating that gets a little char on the grill, and the result is really good. I get compliments from our guests every single time.

Why You’ll Love This Pork Skewers Recipe

There are actually many reasons why this recipe for marinated pork skewers easily turns into a family favourite. Let me walk you through just few of them:

  • The marinade is prepared with ingredients you likely already have in your home. Soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, a splash of rice vinegar. Nothing fancy, nothing you need to hunt down. That alone makes it an easy choice.
  • Pork tenderloin is also one of the fastest cuts to cook on the grill. Just few minutes per side and you are done. No much effort required, just a quick flip and dinner is ready.
  • The honey garlic glaze at the end is optional in the sense that the skewers are already flavourful without it, but it takes about thirty seconds to mix together and adds that glossy, sticky finish that makes them look and taste like you put in way more effort than you did. Plus it adds these amazing Asian flavours.
  • And the leftovers. Honestly one of the best arguments for making these. The pork gets even better the next day once it has had time to sit in all that marinade flavour. Tacos, rice bowls, a quick salad topping. It just works.

What You’ll Need for Grilled Pork Skewers

Pork tenderloin – This meat cut is lean, tender, and perfect for skewers. It stays juicy on the grill when you do not overcook it.

Soy sauce – The salty base of the marinade that also helps the meat caramelize on the grill.

Rice vinegar – Adds an interesting tang that balances the honey and soy so well.

Honey – The subtle sweetness of the honey balances the flavours and helps the glaze stick to the meat.

Garlic and ginger – Minced and grated fresh for the best flavour in the marinade.

Sesame oil  – Just a drizzle, but it adds rich flavour that rounds everything out.

Cilantro – Scattered over the skewers at the end for a bit of freshness and amazing, effortless presentation.

Skewer sticks – Wooden or metal both work. Soak wooden ones in water first so they do not burn on the grill.

Honey Garlic Pork Skewers FAQ

Can I use a different cut of pork?

Pork tenderloin is the best choice here because it is lean and tender. Pork shoulder works too but will need a longer cooking time to break down properly.

Can I cook these in the oven instead?

Yes. Roast at 425°F for about 20 minutes, turning halfway through. You will not get the same char as the grill, but they are still really good.

How long should I marinate the pork?

Overnight is ideal, but even 1 hour makes a difference. The longer the pork sits in the marinade, the more flavour it picks up.

Can I make these ahead for a party?

Absolutely. Marinate the pork the night before, build the skewers the morning of, and keep them covered in the fridge until you are ready to grill.
