Feta Cheese Spread With Roasted Peppers

Party appetizers are honestly the most fun thing to make. Small, easy, and they make the table feel special without doing too much. One of the easiest things I always come back to is this feta cheese spread with roasted peppers. It is simple, familiar, and always a hit.

This is a recipe I grew up with. Very traditional, straight from wise grandmas’ kitchens. I still make it the same way they’ve taught me, just with a small twist to make it creamier and a bit more spicy.

If you are looking for easy feta cheese appetizers, this one checks all the boxes.

What You Will Need For This Feta Cheese Spread

Feta cheese Feta gives the spread that salty flavour and keeps it from becoming too smooth.

Sour creamThe sour cream helps to soften the feta and perfects the creaminess.

Garlic – Please don’t skip the garlic. One clove is the minimum. It adds so much flavour.

Roasted red pepper spread (Ajvar) This is a traditional Macedonian and Balkan spread. Smoky, slightly sweet, and full of flavour. You can usually find it in European or Balkan grocery stores.

dry basil

Dry basil You need just a sprinkle. It adds a light sweet Mediterranean taste and balances the saltiness of the cheese.

Chilli flakes Optional, but great if you like a little kick. Add as much or as little as you want.

Black pepper – To taste.

Blender or food processor You can mix it with a fork, but a blender makes this cheese spread recipe faster and smoother. So highly recommended.

What You Nedd

  • 200 grams feta cheese

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • 1-2 garlic cloves

  • 1 teaspoon chilli flakes

  • ½ teaspoon black peppers

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (or oregano)

  • ¼ cup roasted peppers spread (aka Ajvar)

How To Make Feta Cheese Spread

  • Start by adding the feta cheese in the blender or food processor.
  • Next, add the sour cream.
  • Spoon in the roasted red pepper spread.
  • Add the garlic clove straight in.
  • Season with dry basil, chilli flakes, and black pepper.
  • Pulse everything about 5 to 10 times, just to get things going. Then blend on medium speed for another 5 to 10 seconds.Do not over blend. You need it creamy, but with a little chunky texture from the feta.
  • Scoop it into a bowl and it is ready to serve.

Notes

  • If you want a nice spicy kick - add 203 small pickled hot peppers like jalapeno slices and blend it all together.

How to Store Feta Cheese Spread

Transfer the spread into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 5 days.I do not recommend freezing it. The texture changes and it just is not the same experience. Make what you need or use leftovers within few days.

How to Serve the Feta Cheese Spread

This is one of those feta cheese appetizers that works for everything. Serve it as part of a party spread or charcuterie board. Or simply spread it on bruschetta or warm pita. You can also grab some crackers and start dipping.

Simple, and always works well. If you want an easy, no-stress cheese spread, make this homemade version, so special that never disappoints.
